Otoplasty, Ear Pinning
Introduction
There are a number of deformities that can be corrected by surgery, the most common of which is to correct ears that protrude significantly. This condition can make ears appear larger than normal and impact on one’s self esteem. This can be particularly emotional for children, who may become subject to teasing or taunting. This procedure can correct the protrusion and improve a person’s self esteem and feeling of well being.

Procedure Description
An incision is made in the back of the ear which will allow Dr. Shenko to sculpt or fold the cartilage. Once the new ear position is established the incision is sutured to secure the new position.
For additional information about the procedure, answers to any questions you might have or to discuss your particular condition, please contact Dr. Shenko to set up a consultation!.
Recovery
Following the surgery the patient will have their head wrapped to protect the incision and support the new ear position and to promote healing. You may experience some discomfort that can be controlled with medication.
Most patients are up and about a few hours after the surgery. Lighter bandages can be applied within a few days or replaced with a head band. Activities that could bend the ear should be avoided for at least a month.
