Blepharoplasty, the Eyelid Lift/Tuck
Introduction
The eyes are one of our most revealing features. Sometimes hereditary factors or the natural aging process can impact the appearance of the eyes so that they may not reflect how we really feel. Drooping upper eyelid skin or baggy, puffy lower eyelids may make you appear angry, sad or tired, conditions that many of us find unacceptable. Eyelid surgery corrects these problems and reveals a more youthful, energetic version of yourself.
Good Candidates for an Eyelid-Tuck
- A non-smoker
- Generally healthy
- May have “bags” under the eyes
- May have excessive skin hanging from the upper eyelids, sometime impairing vision
Procedure Description
Blepharoplasty surgery, commonly referred to as an eyelid-tuck, is a surgical procedure to correct the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids by removing the excess skin, tightening the muscles and sometimes removing excessive fat pads, or “bags” under the eyes.
Blepharoplasty is an outpatient surgery that takes place either in a hospital setting under light sedation or in the office operating area with a local Novocain-type anesthesia and takes about 1.5 hours. The incision is made along the natural crease of the upper eyelid or along the lash line of the lower eyelids and are very inconspicuous.
Your surgery will reveal a smoother, tighter, more youthful appearance that better matches the way you truly feel- youthful, energetic and alert. Women and men alike commonly undergo this surgery and achieve wonderful results.
Recovery
Most patients are out of work for about 1 week due to swelling and bruising, which usually last about 10 days but can easily be covered with make-up after approximately one week. Prescription pain medication is not generally required after surgery, since lubricating antibiotic ointment and cold compresses are all that you need to alleviate discomfort. Contact lenses may not be worn during the initial 2-3 week healing period.
Your results will continue to improve over the next 3-6 months, however, you will continue to age naturally. Sun protection, including sunscreen and sunglasses, will help maintain your results and improved overall appearance.
